More mail from Harlequin:
G'day Guy's,
I am indeed from Australia, although currently in north east
derbyshire - god knows why. It's very odd having you read my
disconnected words out online, not my voice very strange, sorry about
the hideously broken English.
Graafen you are indeed right the terms of the GNU license do stop it
from being 'sold' for want of a better term, but I fear the day when
I can't install BSD or GNU/Linux onto hardware that allows me that
access to the unfettered system.
China - I agree with you guys it would be amazing to see the biggest
state organising itself into the green power revolutionary, the
damming of the three gorges dam hasn't and never will be a success,
because there looking in the wrong direction. But thats because there
playing catch up to the western super powers energy systems, which
they shouldn't be, and since there are playing catch up the real
choice there is a nuclear power station or the three gorges dam I
know which one I prefer, even with the massive displacement of
flora/fauna and peoples.
Now what could they(china) do to with doing, allow the workers to
grow there food on there peasant farms, but give them the access to
solar panels/wind turbine, the one laptop per _person_, free
education for the masses up to what ever level they choose,
distributed manufacturing systems. Mind you that would also make the
people ungovernable and highly independent which is not what any form
of governance appears to required.
Now sure there not doing this but the western world ain't getting
there shit together and I have more belief in 1/3 of the world trying
to work together under one system, then 2/3 of the population trying
to destroy one another though stupid economic systems, and petty
conflicts arranged around silly tokens of belief and borders. And
please remember China's nowhere near the dictionary definition of
communism, just like America is not a capitalist system, mind you
china doesn't seem to lie about it quite as much as the western world.
People seem to forget, with reference to the rabid
libertarianism/socialism discussions on the rant forums at the
moment, just as a true free market capitalist economy doesn't exist
and seemingly never will, neither does a true socialist
one(collectivised or otherwise), mankind is amazingly enough human
therefore capable major of mistakes and trying to use an imperfect
being to set up a perfect form of governance is always going to lead
to problems, it's just the depth of the problems and how they effect
the every day person that change. Easiest way to solve it step out
side and tell the fascist world MYOB when it ask you questions and
remember the amazing word's Freedom - I won't(see the link to The
Great Explosion for more details).
Thats the difference between a socialist and a capitalist systems,
you idealised, have the needs of the many vs the wants of the few
with the power in the other, your choice is to have the whole world
existing on a sustainable nearly vegan diet, freely educated,
although amazingly poor by a standard definition, doing what ever
they want(which in my case is boggin off to mars to play with
areology and closed loop plant based systems), vs what we have today
most of the world starving to death and killing itself very quickly,
I know which one I look forward to living in more.
Strangely odd inspired links;
Love a replicator try the rep rap project. It warms my heart to see
someone doing something decent with the g-code standard, I used to be
a cnc programmer building military hardware you see, but i don't like
war its a bit to serious for me, don't mind a decent free militia
though free firearms anyone?;

Not to sure about A line pant suit with hip pockets think I'll stick
with the military surplus kilt, but hey it's your comfort factor so
blow yourselves away. Should you wish a decent discussion on 'better'
mens fashion;
http://www.kiltair.com/kilt_making.php
and on some well cool sewing projects allowing WiffWaff to dump the
military surplus whilst still having tactical pockets galore;
http://www.diytactical.com/main/
Please mention one of my favorite books, the only decent description
of an anarchist system Ursula Le Guin's The Dispossessed; thats a
communist system(mutual ownership) with free market(anyone can make
anything) and a socialist work ethic(the workers organising
themselves into a coop), not much to do with violence and it doesn't
fit into the left/right system of politics it's neither and both.
Another great book looking at how to be ungovernable The Great
Explosion by Eric Frank Russell
http://tmh.floonet.net/books/tge/tgetoc.h
And anther fine piece of fiction on socialism was the amazing Robert
Tressell's book The Ragged Trousered Philanthropist which is soon to
be dramatised and played on auntie.

And for all those strange people that think that money is a necessity
instead of a stupid at best ridicules idea to make us all slaves try
the following;

Marmite...Bovril...Heathens it's vegimite! Fucking Pom's don't know
fine cuisine if it bit you on the arse! Have fun and remember when

RECCOMEDIA
Big Buck bunny www.bigbuckbunny.org
A community driven pixar level open sorce animated short. 10 mins long, and if you don't want to download it (it's free) you can watch it on You Tube. It can be bought (€34) on dvd (including blender files, extras, digital models, tutorials etc - basically a kit to make your own movie, using the same characters) made under open sorce, under Creative Commons licence, and put together, and sponsored by many people. If you never go to another of our reccomedia ever again, go to this one. It's nearly as important as Zeitgeist, for what it represents.
